Metal tiles
Our OWAtecta metal systems come in three types: lay-in, clip-in, or hook-on. We also offer metal baffles, acoustic canopies and ceiling rafts. Additionally, we can offer metal wall panels and bespoke bulkhead and staircase panels. OWA’s metal ceiling tiles provide architects and designers freedom to create modern ceiling layouts.
A plain metal ceiling tile is hygienic and suitable for cleanrooms, kitchens and pressurised rooms. But it will not offer any acoustic or sound absorption. Whereas a perforated metal tile with an acoustic fleece will offer class C absorption as standard. Or, class A is achievable with an extra acoustic pad. Furthermore, an open mesh tile will offer an industrial and contemporary look. But again, it will not offer any acoustic or sound absorption. However, we can supply a class A, black fabric wrapped acoustic pad if required.
The three types of metal suspended ceiling systems use the following:
- Metal lay-in tiles – these are like mineral fibre tiles. They are available in 600 x 600 mm modules that fit into an exposed suspended tee grid. The tiles are available with a square edge or a microlook edge. Square edge tiles sit on top of the T grid so the tile face is almost flush to the grid. Whereas the face of a microlook edge tile sits 8mm below the level of the grid. We also offer an exposed bandraster C-profile system which uses lay-in metal planks. To view our lay-in tiles, go to ‘Products’ and filter by ‘material = metal’ and ‘edge = all 3 lay-in options’.
- Metal clip-in tiles – the 600 x 600 mm tile module clips into an A-bar clip-in profile. The design conceals the suspension system, and the tiles sit flush to each other. For access, the tiles can unclip and swing down with the aid of a removal tool. We also offer a security clip to lock the tiles in place. Ideal for detention centres or prisons. To view our clip-in tiles, go to ‘Products’ and filter by ‘material = metal’ and ‘edge = both clip-in’ options.
- Metal hook-on tiles – we offer a variety of hook-on systems with different edge details. The metal panels are usually rectangular but bespoke sizes are also available. To view our hook-on tiles, go to ‘Products’ and filter by ‘material = metal’ and ‘edge = hook-on’.
We can manufacture the above metal tiles from galvanised steel, stainless steel, aluminium or expanded mesh. Metal mesh tiles provide an industrial, modern, contemporary style for any interior. Expanded mesh metal panels have an open appearance. Therefore, the soffit and services above will all be visible. However, we can supply black fabric wrapped acoustic pads. These will absorb unwanted sound and hide the services above.

Benefits of metal ceiling tiles over mineral fibre tiles
- Strength and durability – you can handle the tiles more frequently. Furthermore, they are unlikely to crack, split, chip, discolour or stain. Stainless steel or aluminium tiles will not be susceptible to corrosion. So, these are ideal for commercial kitchens, shower rooms etc.
- Longevity – metal ceiling tiles will look better for a longer period.
- Security – a clip-in system with security clips will be more secure.
- Cleaning – easy to wipe and disinfect.
- Cleanroom classification – ISO1 and ISO 2.
- Bespoke – custom sizes and colours are available with a smaller MOQ.
- Recycling – you can recycle metal tiles locally.
- Value for money – metal systems are not as expensive as you may think. Especially when you factor in stains, damage, replacements and disposal.
