Metal Tiles

Our OWAtecta metal systems feature lay-in, clip-in or hook-on variants. We also offer rectangular and tubular baffles, single-piece acoustic canopies, larger demountable acoustic rafts, acoustic wall panels and bespoke bulkhead and staircase panels. OWA’s metal ceiling tiles provide architects and designers flexibility and freedom to create amazing, modern ceiling layouts.
A plain metal ceiling tile is hygienic and suitable for cleanrooms and positive/negative pressure rooms. A perforated metal tile with an acoustic fleece will offer class C sound absorption as standard. Or, when combined with an acoustic pad, class A is achievable. A mesh tile without a fleece will offer an industrial look, but zero sound absorption. However, we can supply a class A black fabric wrapped acoustic pad if required.
The three types of metal suspended ceiling systems use the following:
- Metal lay-in tiles – these are very similar to mineral fibre tiles. Usually in 600 x 600 mm modules which also lay into an exposed suspended tee grid. The edges of the tile sit on top of the ‘T’ grid. The tiles are available with a square edge (sits flush to the top face of the grid) or a microlook edge (the tile face sits below the level of the grid). To view our lay-in tiles, go to ‘Products’ and filter by ‘material = metal’ and ‘edge = all 3 lay-in options’.
- Metal clip-in tiles – the 600 x 600 mm tile module clips into an A-bar clip-in profile. The suspension system is concealed, and the tiles sit flush to each other. For access, the tiles can unclip and swing down with the aid of a removal tool. We also offer a security clip to lock the tiles in place. Ideal for detention centres or prisons. To view our clip-in tiles, go to ‘Products’ and filter by ‘material = metal’ and ‘edge = both clip-in’ options.
- Metal hook-on tiles – we offer a variety of hook-on edges depending on the system chosen. The panels or planks are usually rectangular but bespoke sizes are also available. Primarily the suspension system is concealed. However, we do offer a bandraster C-profile which is exposed, and a hybrid system is also available. To view our hook-on tiles, go to ‘Products’ and filter by ‘material = metal’ and ‘edge = hook-on’.
We can manufacture the above tile types from galvanised steel, stainless steel aluminium or expanded mesh. Metal mesh tiles provide an industrial, modern, contemporary style for any interior. Aesthetically you can see through the mesh panels. Therefore, the soffit and services will all be visible. Architecturally, ventilation and lighting could be located above. However, we can supply black fabric wrapped acoustic pads for sound absorption and to hide the services above.

Benefits of metal ceiling tiles over mineral fibre tiles
- Strength and durability – you can handle the tiles more frequently. Furthermore, they are unlikely to crack, split, chip, discolour or stain. Stainless steel or aluminium tiles will not be susceptible to corrosion or water vapour. Therefore, these are ideal for commercial kitchens, shower rooms etc.
- Longevity – metal ceiling tiles will look better for a longer period.
- Security – a clip-in system with security clip will be more secure.
- Cleaning – easy to wipe and disinfect.
- Cleanroom classification – ISO1 and ISO 2.
- Bespoke – custom sizes and colours are available with a smaller MOQ.
- Recycling – they can be recycled locally.
- Value for money – metal systems are not as expensive as you may think. Especially when you factor in stains, damage, replacements and disposal.
