Metal suspended ceiling

OWA metal suspended ceiling systems and metal ceiling tiles are high quality and we manufacture to BS 13964 industry standards. We offer effective solutions for a range of interior applications, from commercial offices and retail to education buildings and healthcare projects. Moreover, our metal suspended ceilings are available in a range of different system designs, from clip-in, lay-in, hook-on and bandraster to security and corridor solutions. We also offer plain, perforated or mesh tile surfaces. Plain tiles are easy to clean and suitable for hygienic environments. Whereas, perforated or mesh tiles will offer excellent class A sound absorption with an acoustic pad. An additional pad is not necessary if you only require class C absorption for general installations, i.e. corridors or education facilities to meet BB93 requirements.

Metal ceiling system types

  • Clip-in - this is a concealed solution where the suspension grid is not visible, and the metal tiles or panels clip into hidden profiles. The system must be installed using rigid hangers otherwise the tiles cannot be clipped in during installation. Similarly, for access and maintenance, a contractor can unclip and swing down the metal tiles without having to fully remove them and put aside. The tiles are available with bevelled edges or square edges and a plain surface or a perforated surface.
  • Lay-in - this is an exposed solution where the suspension grid is visible. The grid forms an open suspended structure with apertures ready to accept the tiles. Thus, the metal tiles or panels lay into the exposed system from above and sit on the tee grid where the shoulder of the tee grid supports the tiles on all four sides. Subsequently, the tiles are easily removable for access and maintenance.
  • Hook-on - this is a concealed solution where the suspension grid is not visible. The metal tiles or panels hook onto the hidden profiles. The system must be installed using rigid hangers or wall brackets otherwise the system will move when trying to hang the tiles during installation. The metal tiles / panels are available with square edges and a plain surface, perforated surface or mesh surface. The tiles are easily removable for access and maintenance.
  • Bandraster - this is a visible C-profile hanging from a perpendicular, concealed, primary U-channel. The metal panels or planks span between each bandraster, hooking or laying onto the top flange of the C-profile. We can supply the panels in various sizes, edge details and surfaces, i.e. plain, perforated or mesh. Once again, the metal panels are easily removable for access and maintenance.

The advantages of a metal suspended ceiling

A metal suspended ceiling will be more durable than a mineral fibre system. The metal tiles / panels will be stronger and less likely to break, crumble, stain or chip when repeatedly handled during installation or maintenance. Contractors can remove and demount the tiles more frequently than the more fragile mineral equivalents. Although standard galvanised steel and powder coated metal tiles are not suitable for humid environments, they will withstand one-off water leaks. Whereas mineral tiles will stain, absorb water, deteriorate and sag. Also, the lifespan of metal tiles will be longer than mineral tiles. The durable ppc surface can be wipe cleaned, whereas most mineral tiles cannot be cleaned without staining the surface. For designers and architects, a metal suspended ceiling offers a modern and contemporary solution for the interior design. Different sizes, shapes, surfaces and colours can add impact, interest and originality to any scheme. Therefore, a metal ceiling can be a good investment in the long run.

Metal ceiling applications

A metal ceiling system is suitable for most interior spaces and environments:

  • Commercial office buildings; open plan offices, boardrooms, meeting rooms, receptions, foyers
  • Retail spaces; shops, department stores, supermarket, boutiques, car dealerships, showrooms
  • Education facilities; schools, universities, colleges, kitchen
  • Hotel and leisure locations; sports centre, restaurant, bar, gym, games area, reception
  • Healthcare; hospital, dentist, doctors surgeries, clinics
  • Industry; laboratory, cleanroom, engineering, food production
  • Residential; student accommodation, apartments, flats
  • Government; prisons, detention centres

Furthermore, corridors are a primary location for a metal ceiling and many of the above locations contain corridors.
