OWA manufactures and supplies a variety of mineral fibre and metal suspended ceiling systems. Please review our exposed and concealed ranges...

What is a ceiling system?

A suspended ceiling system, false ceiling or dropped ceiling includes three standard products: ceiling grid, a ceiling tile and a perimeter wall trim. Also, we refer to the system as concealed, semi-concealed or exposed. This terminology describes whether the grid or suspension is visible or not. Generally, a building interior will have services and M&E equipment fixed to the soffit or roof. So, when a system kit is suspended below, it will hide the unsightly cables, units and ducting. Moreover, the ceiling tiles are removable. Thus enabling access to the services for cleaning, maintenance and repairs.

The ceiling system may need to fulfil other specification requirements. For example, fire resistance, hygiene or acoustics. Room acoustics can be controlled with a mineral or metal suspended ceiling. Needled or fleece covered tiles absorb sound into and through the tile. Therefore, reducing unwanted noise and echoes from the interior space. Similarly, perforated metal ceiling tiles incorporate an acoustic fleece backing behind the perforations and an extra acoustic pad for maximum absorption. This is very important for offices, schools, shops, hospitals or wherever a large number of people gather and work.

Plain metal ceiling tiles are easy to clean and very effective for hygiene control. They can resist mould, bacteria and viruses. Equally, premium, hygienic, mineral fibre tiles can do the same with the aid of surface treatments. However, mineral tiles have the added benefit that they can absorb sound. Whereas plain metal tiles reflect sound and are not suitable for noisy environments.

Another benefit of mineral ceiling tiles is that denser products can be sound insulators. Therefore, preventing sound transmission from one space to another. This is particularly useful for meeting rooms, boardrooms, consulting rooms and other private spaces.

Ceiling system materials

Ceiling tiles are generally made from mineral wool (mineral fibre), metal, gypsum or timber. OWA manufactures and supplies both mineral wool and metal ceiling tiles. Therefore, we offer mineral ceiling systems with metal ceiling grid and trim, and complete metal ceiling systems.
