Giving our customers a wider choice for open‑soffit acoustic ceiling designs

Suitable for a wide range of projects, a canopy or raft is the ideal choice when a full suspended ceiling isn’t required or desired. This allows designers to add acoustic treatments to a space without disrupting services or altering the wider ceiling build‑up. Presently demand for open-soffit acoustic ceiling solutions continues to rise, here at OWA we offer contractors, architects and specifiers a greater choice with new additions to our Selecta canopy range.

What’s new?

Most recently, we have extended our popular Selecta canopy range of glass wool and metal acoustic absorbers to include a natural hemp canopy which provides a natural‑fibre option for projects prioritising embodied‑carbon reduction. Manufactured from fast‑growing hemp fibres that absorb more biomass (bound CO₂) during growth than is used in production, the panels achieve a negative carbon usage while still delivering class A acoustic performance. Ideal for achieving elegant interior designs, the standard 1880 × 1200 × 45 mm format suspends from six discreet wire ropes and absorbs sound across both faces. The natural fibre finish is an option or we also offer a palette of different shades. Additionally, the panels can be fully recycled at the end of their life.

Metal options

Another key part of our range is the S14 metal acoustic canopy, which provides class A sound absorption and a durable, low‑carbon alternative to traditional materials. Manufactured from steel produced using cleaner electric‑arc‑furnace technology, S14 has the lowest carbon footprint of our metal ceiling systems. The standard 2 m × 1 m rectangular canopy is available as a one‑piece unit to create clean, ‘floating’ ceiling design, with black and white kits held in stock. Each kit includes an integrated acoustic pad and suspension rods, making the system straightforward to install and relocate. Bespoke metal canopies are also available in a choice of sizes, shapes, colours, perforations and mesh patterns.

The new hemp additions and durable metal S14 canopy complement our established Selecta range of acoustic glass wool ceiling absorbers and we are proud to offer one of the broadest collections of ceiling canopies.

Why choose a ceiling canopy?

Offering impressive sound absorption performance, Selecta includes seven distinctive, fleece covered, free-hanging shapes which are available as standard in white, grey or black. Alternatively, they can be made to order in different coloured fabrics. For a bespoke design, Selecta Flex enables specifiers to design their own custom shapes within a 2400 x 1200 mm envelope.

The canopies are lightweight, one‑piece absorbers that suspend from wires or clip to a primary runner. The panels are easy to handle on site, reposition and relocate if necessary. We offer a wide choice of shapes, colours and finishes to support different design schemes.

Our canopies have become a practical choice on refurbishment and workplace schemes where open-plan layouts can create challenging acoustic conditions. Canopies or rafts also lend themselves perfectly to creating contemporary open plan spaces as well as providing bespoke solutions for properties with period features such as vaulted ceilings.
